PHZM Multiple ZIP Code Lookup Application

Multiple ZIP code lookup application for the Official 2012 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Maps covering the Conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico

The Climate Source multiple, or “batch-mode” ZIP code finder is a user-friendly Web application that allows the user to match hundreds or thousands of 5-digit ZIP codes with the appropriate USDA plant hardiness zone from the new 2012 map. This application accesses the same ZIP code data base used on the official USDA web site for single lookups. In the Climate Source application, the user simply pastes a list or uploads a file with one ZIP code per line, and the application returns a file with additional columns filled in with the plant hardiness zone and 5°F half-zone (e.g., 5a), and corresponding temperature range (e.g., -20 to -15°F). To gain access to the application, the user establishes an account with Climate Source, and pre-purchases the desired number of ZIP code lookups. During operation, the number of purchased ZIP code lookups is reduced by the number of ZIP codes in the file uploaded.

Here is an example of a lookup for ZIP code 97333

zip_code zone trange zonetitle
97333 8b 15 to 20 8b: 15 to 20

There are four geographic regions in the ZIP code database for a total of over 41,500 five-digit ZIP codes: lower 48 states (~41,000), Alaska (~270), Hawaii (~130), and Puerto Rico (~170). If you are interested in purchasing one of these regions rather than looking up individual ZIP codes in the “batch-mode” ZIP code finder, please email sales (AT) climatesource (DOT) com or call at 541-231-3436.

To verify that a ZIP code is actually one designated by the United States Postal Service (USPS), you can check on the USPS web site by clicking here.
