Why ClimateWise Offers Accurate Weather Conditions .... And Other Web Sites Don't!

Typical weather conditions, which we call climate, that you get from traditional weather web sites often are NOT accurate or representative of the your place of interest. Their information frequently comes from weather stations located miles away from your desired location and, therefore, from a completely different climate. ClimateWise gives you accurate information on typical weather conditions tailored to the location you've chosen.

Troubleshooting/FAQs

Q: Does Climate Wise work beyond the continental United States?
A: Not yet, but we are in the process of creating other apps for outside the continental United States.

Q: Sometimes it takes awhile to load the climate info - why?
A: There are a number of factors to consider:

• - Quality of the internet connection
• - GPS settings in the app

We recommend going with the following basic settings (which are the default settings):

Q: How do I bookmark my location?
A: Just tap the + symbol in the climate table which appears in the results for location query.

You can easily reorder your bookmarks. Just select one and drag it to the position you want.

Q: Can I drop and drag a pin?
A: Yes you can by turning it on in the settings.

The pin icon will be on the menu bar at the bottom of the app.

Once you have dropped a pin, just tap on the pin, hold it down, and drag to your desired location. Sometimes, the pin disappears under your finger.

Q: The app is not working. What should I do?
A:

• - Close the app and restart.
• - Power down and restart your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Data Accuracy:

Q: How accurate are the data?
A: World Class! And widely used by Federal Agencies (the US Department of Agriculture, National Weather Service, Forest Service, and the US Geologic Survey, to name a few) and private firms around the world. Our app uses the PRISM data sets, the most accurate in existence, which account for differences in climate due to topography, rain shadows, coastlines, lake effects, and temperature inversions. Unlike many GIS data sets offered on the Web or in other apps, the PRISM data are not simply repackaged versions of publicly available data. They are the result of many years of research and development by the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University. All PRISM data sets are the most accurate and comprehensive available anywhere in the world.

Q: How do the data sets in the app account for Climate Change?
A: The data used in the app are 30-year "normal" averages for the period 1961-1990. Thirty years is the standard climatological period recommended by the World Meteorological Organization. This length of time is used to best capture natural variations in climate that occur from decade to decade. Increases in temperature since this period due to climate change have typically been a few tenths of a degree at most for temperature, and within 10% for precipitation. Therefore, the values shown in ClimateWise^TM can be considered to be a good representation of today's typical climatic conditions.
